Rain, rain go away

Today was brutal. Rain, torrents of rain, dark, gloomy, awful out today. My poor plants in the garden were drowning, my birdbath was overflowing and we were stuck inside all day long. Fridays and weekends are for being out and about. I love to just go and take a good book to the garden. I curl up on the bench, have the puppies play at my feet and watch the lovely birds flock into the birdfeeder. To me that is better than having a cottage and fighting the traffic. I feel like I have peace, contentment, and lots of fellowship with all kind of God's creatures there. We have a resident rat, (he lives in the bottom of our compost), a big old toad who has just hatched 100 baby toads, cardinals, a wonderful little lonesome bluejay who comes and sqawks and dances every time I am in the backyard, pigeons, red-winged blackbirds, yellow canaries, blackbirds, a little woodpecker, and unnamed sweet brown birds that are tiny. The only time I see robins is when one of our trees is covered with red berries and they come to strip it of its fruit. Lonely? I am not. Interested? I am. We also have a squirrel nest on top of our back porch and the happy couple have been living there for three years now. They give birth to their kids and exercise them on my screen windows and back fence. A few chipmunks have been spotted out there feeding too. Life in the garden makes me want to dance with nature.
