Bathtime for Abby
It was time for my little girl to have her first bath. I've had her for almost two weeks and she is starting to have a fragrance about her that is not pleasant. My oldest daughter and I rose to the challenge by collecting the doggie shampoo, the hair dryer, the fluffy towel and lots of prayers that we would not traumatize her too much. We removed her new little collar (I will discuss her wardrobe additions in another blog) and poured some tepid water in our kitchen sink. She was not amused or a happy puppy when we gently lowered her into the warm water. We had music on in the background and big smiles on our faces as we soaped, messaged and encouraged our first time "spa client" that this was fun and how lovely she would be after her bath. She was terribly frightened and once we had thoroughly cleaned her bottom mostly, we rinsed her off gently, picked her up lovingly, and wrapped her in a warmed up towel. I held her close to my chest and heart and assured her she was fine. We rubbed her down gently and then proceeded to dry her with a warm gentle breeze from the hairdryer set on "low". She liked that part. It is funny, out of all of our dogs the only one that truly loves her bath is our little girl dog Eden, the long haired dachshund. She cries to go into the shower or sink to soak in the sudsy bath. She actually falls asleep while in there and we have pictures of her with piles of soap suds on her head like a "Marg Simpson" hat and her eyes shut and body limp and tilted to one side. She loves the feel of warm water on her and I think it probably brings back memories of her being in the womb. But then what do I know of what she is thinking, that's what I would be thinking. Eden loves the pampering part of the towelling, brushing, drying and the new scarf that she gets to wear afterwards. Anyhow Abby is now one clean puppy. She smells fantastic and is puffy and shiny. Hopefully she will learn to enjoy her bath as much as her step-sister Eden does. Blessings to you all. Wardrobe coming soon. Yes....I have succumbed to cute little additions for my puppy to wear.
