I was cleaning up my family room and happened to peak out of the window into my backyard. What I saw was a spectacular variety of life. There were pigeons, squirrels, a chipmunk, a flock of small black birds, five red-winged blackbirds, a bluejay and the cardinals were waiting in the tree to join in the eating frenzy. I could not believe that so many species could get along so well around the breakfast buffet of seeds and peanuts. I think only once in all the years we have had our feeders out that I saw any kind of aggression. Oh my, if only people were like that. If we could all be polite, take our turns and accept our differences. While observing animals in the wild we all need to take out our pens and notebooks and start taking notes on animal behaviour and etiquette. I am so proud that my backyard is teaming with life. I am so privileged to be able to spread a table every day and invite these creatures to partake of a banquet. I am grateful I have eyes to see the activity and ears to hear all the unique sounds that are expressed as they delight in the smorgasbord. What a great experience to behold. Have an awesome day and go kiss your pets today.
p.s. Sometimes my little Abby while outdoors with me can only contain herself so long as we try to sit quiet and observe this panorama of nature. Sometimes (not always) she takes off and bounds toward the frenzy and they all take flight....that in itself is a marvel to behold!
