I had a good, relaxing weekend with a big birthday bash tucked right into the middle of Saturday. Three members of our family have birthdays almost back to back so we make a huge celebration of those days together as a family.
The weather is really cooling down outside and I am not a cold or winter person so I know what lies ahead.....often I have heard myself say....why do I live in Canada?
Anyhow want to share with you guys another pet we have in our home who gives us much joy and interest. We have a veiled chameleon named Uriah. Uriah means, "Man of the woods" and his habitat is so set up that he actually looks like he is a forest dweller. He is smart and active. He has almost doubled his size since coming to live with us and he sheds his skin as his body grows. We feed him super worms, hornworms (which are his favourite) and of course, crickets covered with calcium powder. Yum! After dinner each evening we let Uriah put on his magnificent display of eating. He can be right across his cage from his food when he extends his long tongue and spears his prey. It is a sight to behold. He closes his eyes as he chews and swallows his food. Perfect bliss! We laugh every time he makes his target. We have to spray his foliage two to three times a day to keep his home moist.
He is a great pet and my kids love him. He is just getting used to being touched. Unfortunately the people who had him before us kept him in an old cage with a dim light and fed him a few times a week. They did not pay much attention to him hence the fact he is not people friendly yet. He has grown considerably and his colours are vibrant and beautiful now. Here are a few photos to introduce you to our Uriah....Man of the Woods. Have an awesome day and be sure to kiss your pets today. (Well maybe not your lizards and snakes.) :)
You can see in the top photo how he is shedding. Look how he hangs on his perch under the lights happily suntanning away. We have two perches side by side so his little gut can swing between the two. Oh my he is a happy, happy guy these days. Life is good for Uriah!

Thanks. Although he looks kid of grumpy his eyes are amazing as they spin around. Never thought we would have a pet like him. He is well looked after now.
