I must admit that I am overwhelmed with the commercialism of the Christmas season. It starts the day after Hallowe'en and comes in like a tsunami ... by mail, by phone, by t v, by radio - everywhere you look. Wow it can really smother you.
I am a voice in the wilderness today. I am giving tips for Christmas gifts that cost next to nothing. We do not always have to a price tag attached to a gift and we buy into the propaganda the more expensive gift you give or get the more important and loved you are. Giving money, gifts, gift cards are temporary fixes and give temporary happiness to us but soon fade as the new year begins.
This season try to give of yourself as much as you can. Sacrificial giving is good for your heart and for your soul. When you reach out and bless someone else the person who gets the real blessing is ... you.
Here is what self-giving can look like.
*it can be a simple as giving away a smile, a wink, a hug or a kiss Cost 0
*take time for a visit, to volunteer, to help out, to listen to someone Cost 0
*make a phone call to someone, text them, send them an card Cost 0
*speak kind words of encouragement, uplift someone's spirit, a simple kind gesture is good Cost 0
I am sure you can think of a hundred ways to give of yourself this season without breaking your budget. We need to reign back on this outlandish spending. We need to take the control of the real meaning of Christmas back. It can be done, it must be done or we too will be lost in the empty pile of gifts and presents that are piled so high under our trees.
Have a great day and hug your pets today.
