I adore cold, sunny, winter days. There is something about the crispness of the air and the vivid blue skies that make me sooooo happy. We have no snow here and getting around either by vehicle or walking is so easy to do when you do not have to concern yourself with snowdrifts or icy patches on the roads. This is the ideal winter for me. Yahoo!
I grew up in a small northern town where we were bombarded with snow. We had so much snow that we used to toboggan off of our roof! I skated five or six times a week on an outdoor rink and knew all the great hills to ski down.
When we were kids we actually went outside and played. Mom would bundle us up so we looked like the abominable snowman and we stayed out on the hills all day long. We would waddle home with beat red faces and snowballs hanging from our clothes and announce out arrival by tapping on our kitchen window. My mom would meet us at the door with her broom and broom us down so we didn't track a ton of snow into the house. Oh, the good old days. I always say that I have seen enough snow accumulation to last my whole life.
When I look out into our back yard these days I see a myriad of birds and wildlife. I feel sorry for the little critters as they shiver and shake in the cold. I am glad that God looks after these little guys.
I am blessed with a lovely, warm home and good food for my table daily. I have an abundance so I can share with the wildlife outside. Please save some stale bread or left-overs that you can set out for these animals in winter. It is of little consequence to us but means literally "life" to them.
Have an awesome day and go hug your animals.
